An Overview of
Adopting
Adoption Network of Colorado
provides adoption services to clients
wishing to adopt through our Traditional Domestic Program, or for families
seeking to adopt through our Designated Program.
A "designated" or 'Identified' adoption is defined as an adoptive placement in
which adoptive parent(s) have been designated by the birth parent(s) prior to
either party's involvement with an adoption agency. A designated adoption
may also take the form of a client
completing a Family Assessment before independently seeking birth parents. The
Traditional Domestic Program requires the agency to complete the Family
Assessment, facilitate the placement process, and provide counseling to
the birth parents in order to complete the
relinquishment process.
For an interstate
adoption, The Agency may contract to perform either the Family Assessment/Post Placement/Finalization
services, or the Birth Parent Counseling/Relinquishment services, in cooperation
with an agency out of state. If the child is born in Colorado, The Agency
initiates the Interstate Compact for the Placement of a Child (ICPC), retaining
guardianship of the child until the finalization of the adoption.
